Is it God’s Discipline or the Enemy’s Attack?

By Sonia Ann November 7, 2020

God does discipline his children whom he loves, but many Christians have been attributing the devil’s work and persecution as God‘s discipline. Rather than taking our stand and the authority God gave us to fight through Jesus via the Holy Spirit… We have been accepting abuse from the enemy for too long.

Some of us have had an idea that God is abusive. God is all powerful and he does have ultimate authority which is the meaning of sovereignty… But He does not take away our free will… if a person wants to keep sinning, they can. God gave them free will and they can make choices all the way to hell; even though it is His will that none should perish! If God took away free will, there would be no love. Love is a choice made freely…it is not forcing someone Into submission.

God does prune us, and sometimes cutting back can be painful…sometimes we feel discouraged or scared that we are losing too much. The gardener of our souls never prunes us to make us more barren, His pruning always produces more good fruit!

We are called to pray for, encourage, exhort and correct one another by speaking the truth in love. We do this to break off deception, take our stand and fight the good fight of faith. We are not supposed to give up under the enemy attack and accept it as God’s will or judgement. Jesus died for ALL SIN so we would not be under condemnation and judgement. We need to be praying for one another constantly; rebuking the devourer and doing good to one another when it is in our power to do so.

Christianity is not a passive walk, and we truly need discernment to check the fruit and not be deceived. Jesus warned us to remove the plank from our own eye before pointing out the speck in our neighbors eye, so be careful not to judge someone’s season of pruning as God’s punishment.

People have misconstrued and misapplied submission in many churches as well. The anti-Christ spirit seeks to control and manipulate. Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom! It is clear we are to submit to God, but we do not submit to the enemy or the enemy’s people. When people in leadership are in abuse of power with the wrong spirit, are we to submit to antichrist doctrines and systems? We are to pray for our leaders and stand our ground in the word. We are to submit to our Father in heaven and do His will on earth as it is in heaven. We must look at the fruit of what people produce, not necessarily the speech or manner they use in their fruit production. The bible warns us of false Christs and False Apostles/Prophets in the last days…that means wolves in sheep’s clothing in the church.

We must stay grounded in scripture with the guidance of the Holy Spirit. We can’t take one scripture out of context and make it a doctrine. When you look through all of Scripture you see God‘s heart for us. The Father loves us so much that he sent his only son to redeem us from the curse to give us everlasting life to give us resurrection power! We have been commissioned to go out in the world and make disciples of men. A disciple does what their teacher does. We are called to heal the sick, raise the dead, take up serpents, and cast out devils! Instead, many of us we have been constantly struggling with infirmity, not able to get victory in our own walks. How can we be good witnesses of the Good News to the world around us if we aren’t walking in victory?

We need to be equipped for the fight saints! We need to wake up and stop believing the lies the enemy has sowed into the church causing us to believe that we are still powerless and helpless, always waiting on God for a breakthrough. Jesus said speak to the mountain and it will fall into the sea… He gave us the authority to speak to the mountain! He said “It is finished” when he died on the cross. His work is done and He is sitting at the right hand of the Father. He will come back for a spotless bride! it is our job to take the authority he gave us and walk in victory!

Personally, I have been in several severe traumatic accidents where the enemy tried to take me out, both of my parents are gone (my father was killed when I was 14 my mom died of cancer 20 years later,) I have battled chronic disease, fatigue and poverty from much of my life. My Christian marriage was destroyed through choices my ex-husband made, and we suffered from infertility for years before my husband abandoned me. I do not say this as a victim; I say this because I realize I was not standing my ground and fighting in faith on the word; decreeing with faith God‘s word over my symptoms and circumstances. I also didn’t have enough brothers and sisters fighting alongside me and decreeing the truth over me and my circumstances. I am grateful for the few who did and the Lord himself who has been a Father to the Fatherless and protected me. I have had many victories in life as well…many more weapons were formed and through prayer and standing on the word they did not prosper!

Since learning the truth in scripture that we have the authority to speak to our mountains, to decree things in faith according to the Word of God, and to not accept what the enemy sends as God’s will for us….I have had many more victories and much less fear of the enemy. We need each other saints…none of us are lone rangers….we must stay in the sheep fold with Jesus as our shepherd to protect us from wolves. We need to discern wolves who come into our pen as wolves in sheep’s clothing too. Look at the fruit (not the package) test the spirits…pray for discernment. See if what people say and do lines up with the heart of God…..sometimes things get messy and it’s hard to see the fruit. Watch and pray….the truth shall be revealed, and the truth shall set you free.
